    What is Anti Consumerism?

    Avoiding Consumerism

Amazon's prime day is a great example of deceptive marketing tactics to get us to buy more. With the illusion of getting "big discounts". In reality these items are sold at this same discount or even lower throughout the year. But media pushes the message that we're getting a huge deal and need to buy now before it all goes away. These are deceptive marketing tactics such as

    • false scarcity: pretending that the resources are limited when there are infact plenty.
    • false markups: listing the original price of something as higher than it has ever been listed as in order to create a fake discount.
    • urgency: making sales only last for a limited amount of time decreases the amount of time for the consumer to decide if they really need to purchase this item.
