Remember: Nothing communicated in any written form is ever completely private. This includes both electronic and analog. All electronic devices are capable of tracking data without our knowledge. Even joking about illegal action could be used against a person.

Protest Digital Safety
- Leave your phone at home.
If you must bring one:
- Turn it completely off (airplane mode still leaks signals)
- Put it in a Faraday bag to block GPS, cell, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth
- Disable Face ID and fingerprint unlock Law enforcement can force biometrics. They can’t force your passcode.
- Cover your face Use reflective sunglasses, shiny clothing, or masks to interfere with facial recognition. Yes, LAPD has used it on protestors.
- Use Signal for messaging Not iMessage or WhatsApp. Signal is encrypted and supports disappearing messages. Turn off link previews too.
- Don’t post in real-time Metadata in photos can reveal your exact location and time, even if GPS is off.
- Know your rights You’re not required to unlock your phone. Police may ask, but that doesn’t mean you have to comply.
